Waste Diversion Ontario (WDO) is non-crown corporation created under the Waste Diversion Act (WDA) on June 27, 2002. WDO was established to develop, implement and operate waste diversion programs for a wide range of materials. Blue Box Waste, Used Tires and Used Oil Material have been designated under the WDA by the Minister of the Environment. Possible future designated materials include Waste Electronic and Electrical Equipment, Household Special Waste, Organic Materials, Pharmaceuticals and Fluorescent Tubes.
WDO has been authorized by the Act to work co-operatively with those industries that produce and distribute products that result in designated materials to establish diversion programs.
